MESSAGE FROM THE EDUCATION CO-ORDINATOR.

Conference year is always an exciting year with many decisions to be made. Shall I go to Conference? What classes will teach me more? How many pieces can I complete? – the list goes on and on. There is so much to learn all the time, the newsletters I receive show the many different ideas that Guilds are offering their members in the way of classes, speakers and work nights. Sometimes there are just not enough hours in the day or week!

Tutors
We are always looking for new and upcoming tutors to add to the talented list in our Tutors’ Register. I do hope all Guilds are using them to encourage their members. Remember most tutors are prepared to change or alter a class to suit your requirements. Contact the tutor you think might suit your needs and talk things through.

Judging Course
Congratulations must go to Pene Williamson, Marianne Craig and Pamela Darney, as they have now completed the ANZEG Judging Course. These ladies’ achievement will be formally acknowledged at Conference in Hamilton.

Young Stitchers
Issue 7 has now been printed, and each Guild has been sent their copy. If you require further copies please contact me, and remember any ideas or suggestions for content would be most welcome.

Study Grant
With the many classes and courses available to extend your knowledge or interest in your favourite technique or passion, you may wish to apply for a grant to assist in reaching your goal. Contact myself or your regional rep for details.

Fabric of Time Suitcase Exhibition
I do hope most of you have had the chance to view this exhibition. As it nears the end of its journey perhaps we could have some ideas or suggestions for another topic or challenge to circulate throughout our Guilds.

As the organisers of the exhibition there are a few aspects of the delivery and packaging of the pieces we would like to point out:

  • Sellotape – Please do not use sellotape to secure bubblewrap or tissue. Wrap you piece in bubblewrap and put in a fabric bag or better still just put your piece in a padded bag, then a courier bag. If you feel you really must seal your wrapping please use masking tape. Sellotape is hard to remove and can’t be re-used. It has to be cut away and the wrapping can be damaged in doing this and means it can’t be reused to return work afterwards.
  • Delivery – If you decide to hand deliver please contact the receiver to make a suitable time to call, especially if you do not want to leave it on the doorstep. Times can then be arranged.
  • Form B – This is the form that accompanies the piece. Please put in an envelope on the outside of the parcel and if several pieces are in the parcel make sure they are all in together.
  • Description – When asked for a short description of your piece, say something about the inspiration and the techniques used rather than a long list of stitches.

These few steps will make the whole process of sorting, photographing and preparing pieces for an exhibition so much easier for the organisers – remember there are usually over 100 pieces to process.
