Presidents Memo March 2018 No 40

At present I am making plans for seven Guild Visits in the Otago/Southland Region prior to and after Wanaka Embroidery School.  I drive home to Christchurch to prepare for flying to Auckland and a visit to Hibiscus Coast Guild and Great Escape, before my return to Christchurch, where I shall be packing for my hospital visit on the 29th April for my Left Knee Replacement.

I am hoping to make headway with Conference submissions during recuperation, as well as preparing for Conference in Nelson.

I for one am looking forward to Nelson’s “The Centre of Things” Conference this is going to be an amazing opportunity for us all to visit sunny Nelson, and have a wonderful relaxing stay in the Central City, with everything within walking distance.      The Registrations have been very encouraging for the Conference Committee and ANZEG.

The BGM during the Conference is when Executive Members are elected to the positions for the following two years. Some Executive are prepared to continue, others have completed their term of two years x 3 and therefore will have to stand down.   All Executive have to be nominated by the committee of a Guild and also seconded by the committee of another Guild, this includes those staying on.

Positions that need to be filled are:  Threads Editor, Education Officer, Executive are setting up a new position for an Online Information Administrator, who will be working on the ANZEG Website and Threads Facebook page, in Liaison with the Thread’s Editor.   Regions requiring a Nomination for a new Regional Rep are Northern North Island, Taranaki/Wanganui/Manawatu and Canterbury.

Please contact me if you are interested in these positions, and a Job Description will be forwarded to you.

Applications need to be in by 31st March together with a CV of your relevant qualities.

Please send Application, nomination form and CV to me.

 Embroidery Conference 2018

Association Days are for all registrants to attend, so do not miss out on this exciting weekend of lectures, meetings, exhibitions and merchants’ mall.  All Guilds are entitled to send two Delegates to the Association Day and BGM, at BGM one is the voting Delegate and the other the Non-Voting Delegate (a chance to learn the ropes).     Please read the paper “The Role of The Delegate” and make sure all Delegates are aware of the content.

ANZEG Executive and the Conference Committee are expecting to have representation from most of the 58 Guilds throughout New Zealand at the Association Day (Saturday) and Biennial General Meeting (Sunday).   This is a commitment that Guild Committees should take very seriously, as this is the one chance, every two years for two representatives to meet their colleagues from other Guilds.   The chance to discuss with others the workings of your Guild, make new friends, meet existing friends, enjoy the company of likeminded embroiderers.  Those attending are able to share ideas, socialise, and enjoy the programme planned with you all in mind.   You owe it to your committee and members to attend on their behalf, so that you can share and enthuse them on your return.

Workshops - do not be disappointed, if you miss out on the workshop of your choice, this result is entirely up to you, not anyone else.

Exhibitions -The Criteria for Exhibition Submissions is also in the Registration booklet, please read carefully for each section, as not following these instructions to the letter may lead to non-acceptance of your hard work.   Guild Displays please make sure your Guild has read the criteria in the Conference Registration Booklet.

Remits and Notices of Motion  (To be Received by Helen Gallagher, National Secretary  and myself by 31st March)

Remits are changes to the Constitution.

Notices of motion are dealt with under General Business.

All Remits and Notices of Motion need to be with the National Secretary by 31st March 2018 so that they can be forwarded to Guilds allowing time for all members to discuss and vote on a remit or notice of motion.   Thus directing the Guild’s Delegate how to vote or discuss ideas at BGM.

Stitch Awareness Day – Approx 6 February 2018

Congratulations to all Guilds who have had a Stitch Awareness Day, and Good Luck to those still to do so.

All Guilds will be sent out paperwork for BGM by the end of April 2018.    (Minutes of 2016 BGM, Agenda for 2018 BGM, Copy of Remits and Notices of Motion, Executive Reports and Nominations)

Presentation of Remits and Notices of Motion start with the word That.  A remit has to refer to the number in the Constitution and the Name, that is being referred to, followed by the change suggested and the reasoning behind the suggested change.   Remits and notices of Motion are from the Guild Name, and are to be signed by the President or representative of Committee.   The seconding Guild has to state their name and signature of the President or representative of the committee.   These maybe sent as Hardcopy or scanned and sent Electronically.
